A lover of Telugu poetry,
Studying the art of Avadhanam,
Programming one line at a time,
Sending the shuttle across the net,
Trekking India's mystic mountains,
all while living in the present...
Who I am
I love words. Once a poem is truly learned by heart, it never leaves you. My days are a mix of school, Telugu literature, and coding - three things that are a big part of who I am.
Growing up in a Telugu household, I discovered that language is much more than something we read or write. It tells stories, preserves traditions, and connects people across generations. Through the art of Avadhanam, I've learned the value of focus, patience, and spontaneity.
When I'm not at a performance or buried in books, I write — stories, observations, reflections. Language, in all its forms, is my home.
The ancient art
Avadhanam is a classical Telugu literary performance requiring extraordinary concentration. The Avadhani simultaneously engages multiple questioners (Prucchakalu), composing poetry in prescribed metres, answering riddles, counting sounds, and resisting deliberate distractions — all at once, entirely from memory. It is one of India's most demanding and beautiful oral traditions.
Eight simultaneous challenges: the foundational level of the art, demanding split-focus across poetry, wit, & memory tasks.
One of the rarest traditional literary feats possible in only a few specific languages. Among these, Telugu is the most famous.
Studying of multiple Telugu manuscripts and learning of multiple Chandassulu.
As one of the youngest Avadhaninis, I am learning to carry this tradition forward. I aim to honour the past while finding my own voice.
Words on the page
Poetry is where I first found my voice, experimenting with many classical metres learned through Avadhanam and free verse.
Short essays on topics that I think about deeply: language, memory, tradition and what it means to be young in an ancient culture.
Stories that blend the world I see every day with the myths and legends that fill the literature I love. Coming soon.
